Cool Off in Hong Kong Pools
Hong Kong summers can be brutal – from the blazing sun to the insufferable humidity, it’s easy to get sweaty and sticky all over. But don’t let that stop you from cooling down with a splash in one of Hong Kong’s beautiful public swimming pools.
In the city-state, many pools are free and open to the general public, with some boasting gorgeous vistas of the harbour or city skyline, cozy chaise lounging options, and even on-the-go snack and drink services. Others are a little more exclusive and swanky, found on hotel rooftops or in sleek urban complexes. And though some can be pricey – and only available to guests or with expensive hotel packages – they’re definitely worth the splurge if you’re looking for a pool day in the clouds!
The newest swimming pool in the city, Victoria Park Pool is an awe-inspiring place to cool off. The pool is the result of a collaboration between Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and Italian company Myrtha, who built it using their patented technology, allowing for high quality, state-of-the-art facilities that meet FINA regulations.
While the pool isn’t yet open to the public, it promises to be a beautiful addition to the city landscape. The swanky design is inspired by the surrounding nature, including its iconic tree-lined avenues and historic architecture. And the glass walls provide stunning views of the city.
The new pool is a part of the revamped Tung Chung Reservoir Recreation Centre, which will also house an outdoor theatre and an exhibition center. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2020, and will serve the community with recreational and sports facilities that help promote a healthy lifestyle.
Another newcomer to the city’s pool scene, The Beach at Sai Kung has taken its name from its location on a stretch of sand at the southern end of the city. The pool itself is a bit smaller than some of the other public pools in Hong Kong, but it’s more spacious than most beachfront swim areas and boasts gorgeous blue and turquoise waters.
If you’re looking for a pool day that’s just as much of a work of art as the hotel itself, look no further than the pool at The Ritz Carlton in the International Commerce Center — which is also home to the world’s tallest skyscraper! The modern indoor pool is complete with floor to ceiling windows, mirrored ceilings, and LED walls that showcase the illusion of coral reefs.
